Prostitutes more Trustworthy than Scientists

Wednesday, 26 Aug 2009

china_prostituteA recent study shows that Chinese prostitutes are considered more trustworthy than government officials and scientists.

The online survey was given to exactly 3,376 Chinese people, of which 7.9% considered sex workers trustworthy, right behind farmers and religious workers.

The final results showed that scientists, teachers and government functionaries ranked really low on the list of trustworthy professions and that soldiers and students were ranked right after sex workers.

The least credible category consisted of real estate developers, secretaries, agents, entertainers and directors. [news.yahoo.com]

  3. Interesting study, but the title smacks somewhat of hyperbole. As you say in the article, this is a survey of PUBLIC OPINION, not an actual demonstration of which is actually more trustworthy. If you want an indicator of how good public opinion is, reflect on the fact that half of Americans don’t know how long it takes for the earth to orbit the sun, or that 40% of them think that humans and dinosaurs co-existed!

Most scientists I know are trustworthy (and I am a scientist), especially in their given field; however that’s not universal, and certainly not in every sphere of a person’s life. I don’t know the situation in China well, but in most of the world fabricating data is a perfect way to get a one-way trip out of academia.

  4. I wonder where Obama would fit?
