I just realized that today is the one year anniversary of the Wii Fit video and had to post something before midnight. Happy Anniversary to me!

Total hits only on YouTube just shy of 8.5 million Man, who would have thunk that this silly video would have led to all these amazing opportunities!

Wii Fit Girl’s Internet Meme

In case you are not familiar, an internet meme (rhymes with dream) according to Wikipedia is ” a phrase used to describe a catchphrase or concept that spreads quickly from person to person via the Internet, much like an inside joke.”

Not only is the Wii Fit Girl story featured on the front page of Know Your Meme, I recently came across this YouTube clip posted by Pop17.

Spike TV’s 2008 Video Game Award Show

On December 14th, 2008 Spike TV held it’s Video Game Award (VGA) show. Jack Black was the host of the show and did the entire opening scene in his underwear.

The opener was a skit about how Jack Black had died, was in purgatory, and in order to go to heaven, had to prove he wasn’t a sloth. One of the ways he was able to beat the devil was by proving he in fact worked out on the Wii Fit. Here’s where I come in.

Jack Black and his personal group of writer’s specifically wrote this part with me in mind, thinking that it would be an awesome and funny way to open the show. Check it out below:

Asylum’s Year End Sex Review

Crazy how I came across this story. A friend (Michelle) sent another friend (Gio) an article about age. Gio then sent the article to another friend (Dorn). As Dorn is reading the story, he notices a news blurb about “The 25 Sexiest Things Asylum Saw Last Year.” He decides to click on it. Bam! (like Emeril) there I was mentioned in the Number 1 spot ahead of Gisele Bundchen’s striped socks!

I’ve Reached 8 Million Views

Wow! I never thought it would happen. It has now been 9 months since the video was published and I have hit 8 million views!

With a little help from my mom, I was able to visualize 8 million people. She reminded me of how amazed I was at the sea of people who were at President Obama’s inauguration, a cool 2 million. Well, multiply that by 4 and there you have it folks.Â Oh, and that does not include all the other people that watched it on sites other than YouTube.

New York Magazine Approval Matrix

On June 15, my very good friend Mark calls me up from NY to tell me that I was featured in New York Magazine. Could this really be? Well it was. The Wii Fit Girl was a part of The Approval Matrix – Week of June 23, 2008. I may not have been part of the highbrow quadrant, but I was on the brilliant side. So, as New York Magazine puts it, “Well Played America!”

I’m an Entry in Wikipedia

So, I guess you can say you are really official when you have made it into Wikipedia, right? I mean, there are so many rules and regulations on who can post and what they can post. I wonder who even wrote the entry? If you are out there, or are reading this (by any small chance), hit me up. I digress.

My lovely boyfriend, who of course had been tracking all stats, stories, blogs, etc. was googling my name and happen to come across the Wikipedia entry. There it was, Wii Fit Girl, the final post under Wii Fit. This my friends, is a title that I will carry with me forever.Â Probably one of the coolest moments (although there are many) on this whole journey.

Playboy: The Ultimate Form of Flattery

How does the saying go: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? Well, on June 13, 2008, Playboy decided to get a piece of the Wii Fit Hula Girl action by posting a video of their 2008 Playboy Cyber Girl of the Year, Jo Garcia, demoing the Wii Fit. In case you missed it, check out the bottom of this post.

Coincidence? I think not. Playboy intentionally posted the video clips after having seen the amount of attention my video received. On June 27, Playboy posted this blurb on the Arts & Entertainment section of their website. Why not cash in on my fame, right? Apparently, if you paid money, you could watch Jo Garcia hulaing naked.

As soon as the new videos were up, the articles began a pourin’. Check this article out on Game Grep, a social game news website. I think my favorite part are the comments at the end.

Wii Fit Girl on Live Diggnation

Let me start off by staying that I love Diggnation. Probably because of my bf, but nonetheless I love them For those of you who are not aware (shame on you), Diggnation is a weekly tech/web culture show based on the top digg.com social bookmarking news stories hosted by Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht. So, when I was part of their live show in New York, it was the ultimate form of flattery.

The original YouTube video was posted on May 25, 2008 and my video was submitted (not by us) to Digg.com on May 28, three days later. I can honestly say that I credit the success of my video to Digg.

Within 8 hours of my YouTube video being posted, I had managed to achieve an impressive 6,000 diggs and top video within 24 hours. As of January 2009, it is still the top video of the year.

As I mentioned above, I was so flattered by the fact that my video appeared on their live show. I decided to send Alex and Kevin a little thank you video. Now, this was intended for their eyes only and it ended up on the next live show in San Jose. Check it out.

The Other Lauren Bernat

I will try and be very sensitive with this post because it was just an unfortunate coincidence for a NY librarian with my same name. I certainly do remember how I felt when the video was first released without my knowledge.

This story starts with another girl named Lauren Bernat who facebooked me asking me to remove the video from YouTube. I decided to ignore the comment just to make things easier.

It then escalated into a huge extravaganza, making it all the way to Fox News (check out the YouTube video below). While I did feel bad at first, it was kind of ironic that a girl who wanted nothing to do with the video was asking for attention on national television. I was also shocked with the fact that Fox News, the most conservative tv station, kind of poked fun at the situation.

Gio and I first saw the Fox News interview at our local Houston’s. There we were sitting at the bar (where we often go for veggie burgers [best ever!]) and there it was on the tube.
